Staying in Gilchrist, TX

Gilchrist is on the quieter east end of Bolivar Peninsula, between Crystal Beach and High Island. It is where the beach houses sit closest to the water: most of our Gilchrist rentals are right on the sand, and many are big enough for family reunions.

High Island’s famous spring bird migration sanctuaries are a short drive east, and Crystal Beach’s restaurants and shops are just to the west on Highway 87.

Gilchrist is the closest town on the peninsula to High Island, so from Houston you can skip the ferry and come in on Highway 87. Coming through Galveston, take the free Galveston–Port Bolivar ferry and drive east past Crystal Beach. Every home has self check-in with a door code.
